The Summit Cancer Solutions board of directors consists of individuals who have embraced the mission of providing cancer-specific exercise programs to individuals in the Denver, Colorado Metro area. The Board provides a wealth of professional and personal experiences to support and enhance Summit's vision.

Stephanie Stephens, Board Chair

Stephanie Stephens is currently Executive Director for the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association – a non-profit statewide membership association for parks and recreation professionals.  She has a BS in Recreation Administration from the University of Northern Colorado and has spent much of her career helping older adults live healthy, active lives through parks and recreation.  As Executive Director for CPRA, she has put her energy to educating, supporting and recognizing professionals who then pass along their passion to the communities they serve.  She has been on the Board of Directors since 2006.

In her free time, Stephanie enjoys walking or hiking the many beautiful trails in the metro area, gardening, spending time with friends, or even just enjoying a really great book on her back patio.  She encourages everyone to “Get Active and Live Healthy” – in whatever way best suits you!

Christopher Price, Secretary
Chris is an attorney with Murray Dahl Kuechenmeister and Renaud LLP, who specializes in the representation of local governments. He is a member of the Summit Cancer Cycling Team; an organization that raises money and awareness for the Summit exercise program. Chris believes that exercise is a necessary and enjoyable component to living a well-rounded life.  During his free time, Chris can be found running, riding or reading.

Lisa Gundersen
Lisa has worked in the health care industry for the past 18 years as a Physician Assistant and Physiologist.  Serving as a Physician Assistant for the past 13 years, she has practiced family, internal, and emergency medicine, and is currently working in spine care and pain management.  She holds a Physician Assistant degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a B.S. in Exercise Physiology from the University of New Hampshire and Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Lisa leads an active lifestyle and is an avid cyclist, cross country skier, tennis player, and hiker. She knew Karen Hornbostel, the founder of Summit Cancer Solutions, since 1987 and raced on the same Zinn-Alfalfa Cycling Team with her for several years.  Their friendship spanned several decades until she passed away in 2006.  Lisa's friendship with Karen and health care background gives her both a personal and professional interest in seeing the Summit program succeed and grow.

Kim Hedberg

Kim is a business consultant working with companies on sustainability issues, professional development, business plan writing, and financial analysis. She also coaches individuals to further their career development.  Her experience includes 25 years of managing both nonprofits and for-profit ventures. Other skills include teaching, project management, data analysis, business consulting, and negotiation. She has significant experience fundraising, managing staff and budgets, developing programs and policies, and running an organization. Kim's volunteer work encompasses teaching and patrolling for the National Ski Patrol, organizing the Boulder Business Series lecture series, heading the Amherst College Alumni Group in Colorado, and fundraising for Amherst College, as well as advising various nonprofits in the Colorado area.

Janet Johnson

Janet Johnson was an educator with the Denver Public Schools for 34 years.  She taught drama/English for 18 of those years first at John F. Kennedy High School and later Montbello High School.  She finished her career as a Dean and an assistant principal for discipline and later pupil services.  She was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2003 and then a second time in December 2004 and became associated with the Summit Cancer Solutions in February 2004 when the La Alma Recreation Center welcomed the program.  She credits Summit for helping her through the second bout of cancer and maintaining good health after her treatment.  She is happy to join the Board for the Summit Cancer Solutions program to give back to a program that has meant so much to her.

Patti Hutt

Patti is a physical therapist, and is co-owner of Fit Physical Therapy, which is located within recreation centers. She has witnessed the impact of the Summit Cancer program within the rec centers, observing the blossoming of individuals as they take charge of their rehabilitation with their guided exercise program. The exercise is key---but the camaraderie built with others who understand is such an important component. Smiles and laughter accompany an otherwise difficult process of regaining one's strength and endurance.

Patti has practiced physical therapy for 30 years, graduating from the University of Missouri in 1979. She lives in Wheat Ridge, where she and her husband raised 2 children, who also now live in the Denver area. They continue to love Colorado living, enjoying biking, jogging, and gardening, and training their active golden retriever, Breck.

Cathy Porter

Cathy is the Assistant Vice President of Vectra Bank Colorado in Aspen. Cathy knew Karen Hornbostel, Summit’s founder, and participated in a bike race team with her for several years. Cathy has coached and mentored small businesses and organizations in the areas of business management and finance through the Boulder Chamber of Commerce. She currently serves on the boards of the Aspen Cycling Club and the Aspen Valley Land Trust. She is a mountain and road cyclist, trail runner, Nordic and alpine skier, and hiker!
